My latest set of images 'Beyond Alesund' were inspired by a journey along the west coast of Norway in January 2007. Awe inspiring, magnificent and at times overwhelming, I felt compelled to capture the experience in my sketch book.
My process begins with layering grounds of texture using different media. I then start using colour, scratching , erasing and reestablishing and repeat the process until I have achieved a satisfactory unity.
Using my materials in an experimental way I am trying to convey sensations of the unknown remoteness of the landscape and at the same time a sensation of the closeness and calm.
